Teaching in villages of Armenia

Today in a sentence:

A full and meaningful day of teaching, travel, and fellowship in the mountain villages of Armenia.

Pastor K and Lilit (my interpreter) picked me up early this morning for our drive to Vayk. I’ve traveled this road several times, yet it never loses its beauty. The hills and mountains of Armenia seem to tell their own quiet story.

In the distance, Mount Ararat stood in silent majesty – a steady reminder of Noah and God’s faithfulness through generations.

Along the way, Pastor K and I had a meaningful conversation about the health of his church, the vision God has given them, and how they are discerning their next steps forward. These are sacred conversations – quiet, honest, and filled with hope.

At noon, we arrived at a home church in Vayk. Familiar faces greeted me warmly. In true Armenian hospitality, I was offered coffee, chai, fruit, and sweets.

As people slowly gathered, we sat together in a simple living room. The setting was far from what many would consider a traditional place of worship – no cathedral, no formal structure. Yet this humble room was sacred. There was a warmth in the faces, and a readiness in the hearts to receive the Word of God.

After a time of teaching and prayer, our host graciously prepared a wonderful Armenian meal. Soon after, we said our goodbyes and began the journey to Zadera, a small village nestled in the mountains.

When we arrived at the home of Momido and Lucina, people had already gathered. Once again, we were received with warmth and anticipation. As I taught, many questions were asked – it was clear that the subject was timely and meaningful for them.

Lucina prepared another wonderful meal, and the evening was filled with laughter and heartfelt conversation. These moments – around a table, sharing stories and faith – are as much ministry as anything spoken from the front of a room.

As the day came to a close, I was shown to my room. I fell asleep thanking God for these dear people and the privilege of walking alongside them.

Prayer/Reflection

Lord, Thank You for the beauty of this land and the faith of Your people.

In humble homes and quiet villages, You are at work – drawing hearts, strengthening leaders, and building Your Church.

Help me to remain present in these moments, to listen well, and to serve faithfully. May Your Word continue to take root in every heart that gathered today. Amen.

Fun Fact:

Mount Ararat, visible from much of Armenia, is traditionally associated with the resting place of Noah’s Ark (Genesis 8:4). Though it lies within modern-day Turkey, it remains a deeply cherished symbol of Armenian identity and faith.
